Diperkenalkan (kapan dan dimana)

Istilah Open Source pertama sekali diadopsi oleh sebuah kelompok orang (yang bekerja pada project free software) pada suatu sesi acara (seminar/peluncuran) source code untuk aplikasi “Navigator” pada Januari 1998 di Palo Alto, California.
